The first annual Black Walnut Day celebration will take place Sept. 11 at Ascot Hills Park in El Sereno from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in celebration of the California Black Walnut. Found in abundance throughout Northeast LA, the California Black Walnut is a native tree of cultural and ecological importance. The family-friendly event will include an educational scavenger hunt, natural dye workshop, tree-planting tutorial, youth and family hikes, and more.
